Process Development Engineer

The Process Development Engineer will play a key role in the company’s ongoing evolution, enabling the product transition from prototyping through pilot manufacturing into full production.

The primary responsibility is to transition low volume optics production and solar module assembly processes to high volume processes. Candidates familiar with conventional solar module assembly methods are preferred. This includes: solar cell tabbing and stringing, alignment / pick-and-place positioning, lamination and framing. Knowledge of conventional processes will serve as a foundation for the development of process alterations and altogether new processes. Designing new processes involves diligent engineering and actual design work. The process development engineer must be familiar with how to model and specify parts in a CAD system. Broad knowledge of manufacturing methods is essential. Work with suppliers to source, setup and modify the appropriate equipment. The candidate must have the ability to communicate clearly with suppliers and negotiate sometimes difficult relationships in a sustainable manner. The candidate should feel confident in their ability to maintain high levels of motivation and creativity throughout challenging projects.

The Process Development Engineer will work closely with Banyan’s engineering team to specify optics and module process requirements, set up an R&D line and work with key customers to modify their existing manufacturing lines, and with the Director of Engineering and CTO to inform optics and module design-for-manufacturing.

BA or Masters degree in engineering-related field and 2+ years familiarity with solar industry is preferred.
